Nik Titanik Comes to HaHaHouse:

“No Offense, Please” – an Exhibition That Puts All of Us Under the Microscope

This November, HaHaHouse – the Museum of Laughter – brings something truly special: an exhibition by the legendary Croatian cartoonist Nik Titanik, whose sharp lines and even sharper humor have been capturing Croatian reality better than most columnists for nearly three decades.

In his new series of cartoons about Croatian stereotypes, titled “No Offense, Please”, Nik presents a gallery of our favorite—and most provocative—characters and habits, reminding us that laughter is still the best way to recognize and understand ourselves.

Nik Titanik, real name Nikola Plečko, has been one of the most recognizable names in Croatian satire for over 30 years. He’s created more than 15,000 cartoons, published in major national media, and is a tireless observer of the Croatian mindset: from politicians and sports fans to neighbors and self-proclaimed “experts.”

This exhibition focuses on the typical Croatian man and woman, with all their charming flaws, and also features humorous regional traits. Slavonians, Dalmatians, people from Zagorje, Istrians, Lika locals, folks from Imotski – nobody gets spared.

“For the last few years I’ve been working on Croatian stereotypes, which resulted in the big exhibition ‘We Croats’ that’s been traveling around the country and reminding us what we’re like as a nation, with the goal of pointing out what we should improve to become better people. The collaboration with HaHaHouse fits perfectly into that story and expands it into regional characteristics, which make our people so interesting and funny in the most positive way. Only great nations can laugh at themselves – and I like to believe we are one of them,” says Plečko.

Nik Titanik created the illustrations of the typical Croatian man and woman together with satirist Filip Majić, who is also the marketing manager of the Museum of Laughter. Majić spent several months gathering data, interviewing people, and preparing material for the exhibition. Visitors will also get to see charming cartoon-style figurines made by the talented artist Mila Lončar from Osijek.

HaHaHouse was imagined as a place where laughter meets art, and Nik Titanik fits perfectly into that vision. His cartoons don’t just make us laugh—they challenge us, raise important questions, and help us relax. It’s humor that enlightens but also connects us: when we laugh at the same things, we realize we’re all part of the same story.
