Zagreb Lakes: Resting From the City Jungle

If you're searching for refreshment in Zagreb and want to escape from the city rush, visit Zagreb lakes – especially if you come during summer when temperatures go high. The city offers you two great places – Jarun and Bundek, both very popular destinations that locals choose in order to rest their minds and activate the body in recreation.

Jarun

This sport center is built next to the river Sava and around two lakes, which have 6 islands. The banks are transformed into promenades often used for sport activities or simple walks and picnics. Around these popular Zagreb lakes there are bike routs you'll be happy to use if you're a bike lover, as well as the playgrounds like the ones for a soccer, basketball, volleyball and similar. On the regatta trace you may see many rowers, kayakers and canoeists, or surfers and sailors. This is the great spot for fishing too. If you're not into sports that much, just relax beside a barbecue and enjoy the nature.

This is the well known destination for night hangouts since the place is abound in clubs, so you can visit Jarun in the evening if you prefer.

Bundek

Park Bundek also has two lakes and is located next to the river Sava, but on the other bank. It is the most popular place for family fun so if you feel like having a traditional picnic, Bundek will be a great idea! You may swim in the Big Lake, while the Small Lake is natural habitat for many plant and animal species. The park also has bike routs and playgrounds, but you can in making a barbecue since the area is full of spots where you can grill steaks.;) For those who will not bring their own food, there are 2 restaurants, so don’t worry.) The western part of Bundek is reserved for a stage, so if you come during summer, you will have the opportunity to take part in many events such as concerts and similar.
