Old School Ilica is recognized as treasury that keeps old and almost forgotten traditions
Zagreb is a modern city - Croatian metropolis, but still preserving the tradition, which can be found not only on facades and in museums, but also in hidden passages and artisan shops. If you want to feel true retro spirit, we recommend you to visit Ilica, the longest and best known street in Zagreb. Thanks to design collective Oaza, which started a local craft production initiative developed through a design project called Old School Ilica, this street has been recognized as treasury that keeps old and almost forgotten traditions.
Start your journey from the Ban Jelacic Square and go west. You may walk or take a tram, but pay attention when you pass between house numbers 50 and 150 – that's the area where you will find retro shops, patisserie, vintage barbershop… Craftsmen that work in this area are opposing to a leading trend of big supermarkets and shopping malls, so go visit old workshopes and stores that promote local values and timeless quality.

Old School Ilica project invites you to enter, for instance, printing offices in order to see traditional ways of printing and book binding. You may afford yourself a cake in a retro patisserie, a piece of jewelry or handmade shoes in one of the shoe making and repair stores. Or you can buy natural pillows and duvet that are made by hand only. For men we recommend to use the opportunity and have a retro haircut at vintage barbershop. Explore them all!
