Story about Cerovečki umbrellas begins in 1912 with Mijo Cepanec, founder of artisan shop in Varaždin. Since Mr. Cepanec didn't have any children, his work continued his nephew Gabrijel Cerovečki. He made umbrellas for the General Trades International Exhibition in London in 1936 and won Grand Prix and Gold Medal award! Mr. Cerovečki later passed his knowledge to his son Krešimir, who passed his knowledge to his son Tomislav so now we have fourth generation of master umbrella maker and 100-year-old tradition.
Through their history, they have been making all kinds of umbrellas: from everyday umbrellas for ladies and gentlemen to garden parasols. Their quality and design became their trade mark and they are proudly saying that their umbrellas speak for themselves. Of course, all umbrellas are handmade.
They even made umbrellas and parasols from 18th, 19th and 20th century for American, English and German film studios and theatres. They also made replica of a mid 19th century ladies parasol for the Japanese Princess when she visited Zagreb. Most popular among their products is replica of the original Šestine umbrella. Šestine umbrella is red Zagreb umbrella with colorful horizontal stripes in the middle and on the edges. That's tradional umbrella that was part of a Šestine folk costume till 1960s. Šestine umbrellas can also be seen at Dolac Market in Zagreb where they use them as parasols. Šestine umbrella got „Croatian Creation“ mark which guarantees that product is result of Croatian tradition, research and development.
