Inspired by the first chocolate factory in the Balkans, mission is to bring back to Rijeka the old splendor of Slon (Elephant) and offer the highest quality products for which it has a good reputation. All pastry shop products are made in a workshop located within the confectionery. Desserts are made from 100% natural ingredients, without additives and artificial colors. Sweets and chocolate products are made from the finest Belgian chocolate (seal of the Belgian royal family).

Pastry shop "Slon by Moreno Debartoli" was opened in December 2019 in the heart of the Old Town of Rijeka next to the Cathedral of St. Vitus. Inspired by the first chocolate factory in the Balkans, their mission is to return the old splendor of "Slon" to Rijeka and offer the highest quality products for which it had a good reputation.

History

That, old, factory was founded in 1896. On shelfs in the city it was possible to find chocolate tables, candies, cocoa powder, and much more. Those products were divided in 2 brands: Jadran (Adriatic) and Slon (Elephant). Customers of that time consumed chocholates under the name Rijeka chocolate Slon. On the chocolate wrappers was a printed illustration with an elephant. Sometimes there was an elephant with three elephants. Of course that was a marketing trick – that should have told customers that they were getting special product, which have exotic origin. And whoever wanted cocoa powder, to use it in their home to prepare their own drink or cakes, needed to buy a round box in stores with the name Rijeka Cocoa Elephant or Rijeka Cocoa Adriatic printed on it.

Products

All products of „modern“ pastry shop Slon are made in a workshop located within the pastry shop and their guests in the morning. You can enjoy the freshly roasted croissants and quiches with the smell of freshly ground coffee. Their desserts are made from 100% natural ingredients, without additives and artificial colors. Desserts and chocolate products are made from the finest Belgian chocolate, which is confirmed by the seal of the Belgian royal family. Their chef, Moreno Debartoli is the Chocolate Ambassador for the Callebaut brand, which is the largest chocolate manufacturer in the world, which guarantees top products and all novelties in the world of chocolate.
