But here's one must-respect rule: don't leave valuables in your rental car. That mistake could ruin your trip. Even if you park in a secure area, don't risk. Instead, leave your valuable belongings in your hotel or apartment. Or simply keep them with you, but also be careful, especially in crowded tourist areas where pickpocketing can occur. Don't let a stolen camera, phone or wallet ruin your whole day – keep your valuables safe and secure.

Opatija is a safe town to walk around, but it's always advisable to take some precautions, particularly if you're out at night. Don't walk alone in secluded or poorly lit areas. Instead, stick to well-trafficked and well-lit areas like the Lungomare. The Lungomare promenade is a wonderful seaside walkway that was commissioned by the Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph I. It spans a distance of 12 kilometers, connecting the towns of Volosko, Opatija, Ičići, Ika, and Lovran.
