Croatian winter dish – Sarma
Sarma is a traditional winter dish which is in this area prepared from mixed minced or chopped beef and pork meat with rice wrapped in leaf of acidified cabbage. It is usually served with bread and mashed potatoes
It’s healthy, it’s nice and this dish is preparing for many decades in Croatian homes. Who of the locals has never eat Sarma? Almost nobody!
For all of those who want to try in the preparing this winter dish here is the recipe:
The mixture of meat with rice you should knead well and then add a little of water in the rice to absorb it. Once the rice absorb the water you can add minced meat, red peppers and pepper and salt. Then you can blend smoked meat so you could add to the whole mixture a slightly different flavor. After that, fry the chopped onion and garlic with in the little of oil and afterwards add them in the mixture. When the pot is full, add water and cook it on a big heat. When the dish is boiling, reduce the heat and allow it to simmer for about an hour.
The main ingredients for Sarma are:
1 kg of pork or minced meat
10-15 grams of rice
Onions
Garlic
Spices: salt, pepper, ground sweet paprika
smoked meat
the leaves of and chopped sour cabbage
