Knights, Horses & Tradition: Experience Istria’s Oldest Tournament
One of the most exciting and culturally rich events in Istria, Trka na prstenac is a traditional equestrian tournament with roots dating back to 1696. Held annually in the inland town of Barban, this event sees horsemen in historical costume galloping down a 150-meter track, attempting to pierce a suspended iron ring with a lance — all in just a few intense seconds.
The three-day program (August 22–24) includes not only the main race but also parades, concerts, folk dancing, artisan markets, and food stands offering Istrian specialties. It’s a celebration of heritage, skill, and spectacle that attracts thousands of visitors from across the country and beyond.
