Desserts, Wine & Folklore: Indulge in the Sweetest Festival in Istria
Sweet Istria is a sugar-coated dream for anyone who loves traditional desserts, folklore, and local wine. Taking place in the charming hilltop town of Vižinada, this one-day festival on August 14 showcases Istria’s most treasured homemade sweets, from airy fritule and crunchy kroštule to fluffy pincas and seasonal cakes.
Local producers, grandmothers, and bakers compete for the best traditional recipe, and visitors can sample the entries while enjoying performances by klapa singers, folklore ensembles, and children’s groups. The event continues into the evening with concerts and dancing in the town square.
The next day (August 15), Vižinada celebrates the Feast of St. Mary Vela with brass bands, a festive procession, and even more food and music, turning the whole weekend into a cultural celebration of taste and tradition.
